Erawan National Park

The major attraction of Erawan National Park is Erawan Waterfall which has 7 tiers of falls!



You can swim in each of the tier with fishes in the pond too! 






Each tier is accessible by a series of trails and there are spots for picnic at first and second tiers. Food and drinks are not allowed beyond second tier. 

The National Park is open from 8am to 4.30pm daily. You can take bus 8170 from Kanchanaburi Bus Terminal for 50 Baht. Do note the last bus timing back to Kanchanaburi from Erawan. 




The Float House River Kwai

Be sure to stay in a float house when you explore Kanchanaburi!

There are several float houses and raft houses along the famous River Kwai. 



The Float House at River Kwai is one of the most popular float house!





You can do a river jump from your room’s balcony. 😄


Swing the day away on the swing chair or treat your eyes to star feast at night! 




There are also other activities available such as bamboo rafting, canoeing and boat trips to nearby caves. 

You can also do a hike at Hell Fire Pass. 

Exploring National Parks at Kanchanaburi

Explored the following National Parks at Kanchanaburi in Dec 2018:

  1. Thong Pha Phum National Park
  2. Khao Laem National Park
  3. Sai Yok Yai National Park
  4. Erawan National Park
National Parks (Thong Pha Phum, Khao Laem and Sai Yok) can be reached via Bus or Van 8203 from Kanchanaburi Bus Terminal or along 323 expressway. Air-con bus is less frequent and more expensive than the non air-con bus. Tickets can be purchased at the bus terminal or paid on the bus itself. The cost of each ticket is less than 200Baht. 

Erawan can be reached by bus 8170 from Kanchanaburi Bus Terminal.

Sai Yok Yai National Park

Similar to Thong Pha Phum National Park and Khao Laem National Park, Sai Yok Yai National Park can be reached by Bus 8203 from Kanchanaburi Bus Terminal or along 323 expressway.



Raft houses along River Kwai can be booked for stay or for activities on the river. 

A boat ride down the river cost 700baht. 

The waterfalls are not meant for dipping though. 

There is another waterfall nearby that you can enjoy a dip in at Sai Yok Noi Waterfall. 





Lucky to catch a small rainbow on the waterfall! 🌈

Khao Laem National Park (Pom Pee)

Khao Laem National Park can be reached the same route as Thong Pha Phum National Park.

You can take the bus or van 8203 from Kanchanaburi Bus terminal or take the bus from Thong Pha Phum District. 

We stopped at Pom Pee viewpoint for camping cos of the sunset viewing points. 

Enjoy gorgeous sunset at about 5.30pm! 

December is not a good season for camping at Pom Pee as it is super warm and dry. 


If you have time, do walk to the main area of Khao Laem National Park. There are waterfalls to explore too!

Thong Pha Phum National Park

Enjoy a stay at the Tarzan Treehouse with starry views for 1000baht per night!

Just look out of the treehouse at about 9plus at night, you can see a sky full of stars! 🤩


There are also other accomodation options available such as bungalows and camping sites.

Wake up early in the morning to catch the gorgeous sunrise from the treehouse or from the viewpoints!




You can get to Thong Pha Phum National Park by Bus/Van:

First - Take Bus or Van 8203 from Kanchanaburi Bus Terminal.

Tickets can be purchased at the bus terminal or van terminal which is opposite the bus terminal. Van has a shorter duration as it only stops along the way for passengers to alight. Bus has a slightly longer duration as it allows people to hop on and off the bus anytime along the 323 expressway. Duration is about 2 to 2.5 hours. 




Alight at Thong Pha Phum District. 

This is the marketplace area. You can get some food and drinks here! 

Then, Take Song Teow to the National Park.

You can board the song teow (local open van) at the market district opposite 7-11. It costs 70 baht for a ride. The ride to the National Park is about an hour. Expect winding roads along the way.

You can also take a hike at Khao Chang Phueak (altitude: 1249m), third highest mountain in Kanchanaburi, which is in Thong Pha Phum National Park. Reservations need to be made in advance as guides are required for the trek.
